STEP Scholarship Program

An education initiative program, known as STEP (Southwest Tennessee Educational Pathways), will offer students the chance to continue their educational endeavors through "last dollar" scholarships provided by Tipton County and nine additional West Tennessee Counties including Chester, Decatur, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Lauderdale, Madison and McNairy.

The program is modeled after the highly successful Ayers Foundation Scholarship Program and will be implemented in two phases:

First, an infrastructure of mentors will be recruited and trained to assist students in navigating the college admissions and financial aid processes.

Secondly, participating counties will work to provide "last dollar" scholarships to fill in the tuition gaps for students after all other sources of financial aid have been accessed.

The benefit of this program is a more educated population and workforce that will help to make this region of West Tennessee grow and become more prosperous.

As stated from County Executive Jeff Huffman of Tipton County:

"My promise to the kids of Tipton County would be, if you graduate from high school and you are accepted into community college or technical college, we'll pay your tuition and fees".
