Maple Drive Bridge Replacement Set for Construction - Detours to Begin July 5

The Town of Atoka issued Notice to Proceed (NTP) to Dement Construction Company, LLC of Jackson, Tennessee on June 26, 2017 to replace the bridge on Maple Drive near the Oliver Woods subdivision in the southwestern portion of Atoka.  The wood-beam bridge, damaged with an overweight crossing last year, will be replaced with a steel and concrete structure that will increase service life and durability of the bridge and supporting headwalls.

The project, estimated at nearly $300,000, will require traffic detours.  For residents living in the Westerfield and Oliver Woods subdivisions and those north of the bridge on Maple Drive, the only access will be from the north end of Maple Drive at Kimbrough Avenue.  For residents south of the bridge on Maple Drive, access will be from the south end of Maple Drive at Tipton Road.

Drivers are urged to use caution when driving in and around the area.  The single-lane railroad underpass will see significantly more traffic than under normal conditions and with limited visibility, drivers should approach slowly.  Atoka Public Works has also installed mirrors to assist with visibility when using the underpass.

The bridge closure is expected to last sixty (60) days.  For more information, contact Town Hall at (901) 837-5300.
